Prague- We made it.

Kay and I arrived in Prague this morning after 12 hours of travel.  Our long flight was 8 1/2 hours of which I slept for at least 6…. interrupted of course but we hit the ground running.  Of course we took public transportation to our hotel and followed the carefully worded directions of the hotel.  the streets are Disney sized streets only they are real.  They twist and turn but we made it, dropped our luggage off and met up with a “free” tour- tips only, walking around for 3 hours.  We didn’t think we needed to dress too warm so we dressed warm but we needed more.  After the tour we came back to our hotel and I put on 3 layers of pants not including my undies!  I wore a  turtle neck, fleece pullover, fleece hoodie (using the hoodie and my knit head band)  Topping it off with my Olympic jacket.  Finally we warmed up.   We went to a recommended Czech restaurant.  I had goulash and Kay had turkey schnitzel.  Faa-aat-ning.  Believe me, they need fat here to keep them warm.

After dinner we took a tram ride out of town to buy water, just for the adventure then we hit the famous Christmas market and bought Chestnuts… roasting…..in a foodservice cart…It just doesn’t sound right. Chestnuts taste like pinenuts.  We liked them  DSC_3482 Kay is zonked.  He let me overlap into the empty seat on the airplane flight so I slept  better than he did.  Perks  of being a woman.

Betty Hall

The Elders texted me to see if I could meet them at Betty Hall's place for a lesson.  We arrived at her Senior living apartment and went to the community room for her lesson.  She asked me to pray.  We talked about keeping the Sabbath Day Holy and she said she was smoking an electric cigarette working on getting off cigarettes.  She said she is walking better than she has in a long time.  Maybe a word of wisdom blessing?  It was a great lesson and she wants to be baptized.  She knows the smoking is hanging her up and is working on it!  She is asking her son to drive her to the branch Christmas Brunch on Saturday.  I hope they make it!

2012 Thanksgiving in Deleware

Thanksgiving day fun run
Davin has a beach house in Delaware and invited  the whole family for a reunion.  None of my kids made the trek.  Oh yea, they weren't invited.  We had all my siblings with their children and my parents on their mission were able to come since it was under 4 hour drive. They rented us a 9 bedroom party  house. We did a fun run, went and saw a Christmas light display, saw a movie, played games and ate tons, hunted for shells after Hurricane Sandy we hit a goldmine of shells.  I gained a pound a day.

End of Rainy Season in Burma

Yesterday we heard drums and sticks banging and looked out the window to see this. A bit later the Buddhist Monk that lives there and speaks no English came over and knocked on my door. He motioned for 2 of us to come and putting his hand near his mouth we were to eat at his house.... OK, we went over and the apartment was jammed with people. We were ushered up to a bedroom where 2 monks sat wi
th an interpreter on the floor. We were asked to sit in front of several bowls of food, finger food and eat. We ate and through an interpreter found this was the end of rainy season celebration in Burma. This tree is for the monks who live here. We put some money on the tree and 2 boxs of chocolates at the base of the tree. We were the honored guests. They didn't eat and we found they eat breakfast and lunch and fast from food and drink until breakfast.

Ah... living in the Hood......

10/21/12
Kay was given a note by our branch president. A former renter we saw in the church hallway and became reacquainted with wanted him to call. She has been attending a ward in our building. The note said she was going to be baptized on her birthday Nov 10 and wanted him to call her. She was a renter a while back when Kay had only black tenants and was constantly evicting. She didn't pay her rent, h
e kicked her out. When we saw her again, she thanked him for not taking her to court. She told us after the Gladys Knight fireside she went up to Gladys and asked for her earrings. Well she called and asked if Kay would (baptize her maybe?) loan her a car to go to Arkansas..... ummmmm....no... ya gotta laugh....

10/20/12 Last night we got a call, a black man was in the laundry at our apartment complex, going through clothing. Kay went down and wouldn't let him leave till the police came and cuffed him! He kept saying "I was just getting a shirt" He told the police man he was visiting a friend. A black friend. The police officer said "do you know how many black people live here?" (none- they are all Asian)

10/19/12 Jody H and I were driving a ways away to pick up a
prescription (150th and Dodge).  On the way we ran over a loose chunk of misplaced road. it flattened my tire and we hobbled to the nearest cross street to get off the main road.  We waited with my hood and trunk up for 20 minutes till someone drove by and asked if we needed help.  YES!!! he found the missing lug wrench and changed my tire only to find my car wouldn't start. I left the lights on for 40+ minutes. He said he would call his employees and ask them.  I found he owns 4 RUNZA restaurants and after calling about 8 prople he found some and went to get them.  He brought them back and started my car.  He wouldn't take any money so we went to RUNZA to celebrate!  Thanks to a good Samaritan.

I had a teenager from our apartments come knock on my door and asked me to change a light bulb.  I told her she was responsible for her own light bulb.  She said she didn't know how.  I walked to her apartment with her, had her get a chair and stand on it and by golly she was about 12" too short! her dad wasn't much taller....I changed the bulb.
